Mamra almonds are a variety of almond grown primarily in Iran, distinct in character from the California (Nonpareil) almonds most commonly available in India. Mamra kernels are smaller and irregularly shaped with a wrinkled surface, and they have a noticeably higher natural oil content than California almonds — giving them a richer, more intense flavour and a slightly oily texture. The 'Jumbo' designation refers to the largest grade of Mamra: kernels considerably bigger than standard Mamra almonds, with a more pronounced crunch.
