Gurbandi (or Gurbanda) is a small, round Afghan almond variety with a notably higher natural oil content and an intensely nutty, rich flavour — among the most prized almond varieties sold in India.
Gurbandi is a rounder, smaller Afghan almond; Mamra is an elongated Iranian almond and more commonly available. Both are premium wild-type almonds with richer flavour and higher oil content than commercial California almonds.
A typical serving is 8–10 almonds (20–25g). Given their high oil content, Gurbandi are calorie-dense — one small handful daily is a reasonable amount as part of a balanced diet.
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from sunlight for up to 60 days. High oil content means faster rancidity if exposed to heat — refrigeration extends shelf life.
