Chhuara (also spelt chhuhara or chiwara) are naturally sun-dried dates — firm, shelf-stable, and considerably denser than soft dates. The black variety has a darker skin, a denser bite, and a deeper, more robust sweetness than the milder white chhuara. Both are the same fruit type dried to the chhuara form; the difference lies in variety, skin colour, and flavour intensity. For the lighter, milder option, see White Chhuara in the catalogue.
No. Fresh dates and soft dates retain significant moisture and have a yielding texture. Chhuara is the fully sun-dried form — the drying process concentrates natural sugars and results in a considerably firmer, chewier texture. It keeps much longer at room temperature and is used differently in traditional preparations, often soaked or cooked in milk.
